Harvest Days Revisited, A taste of a small apothecary
The harvest season waxed & waned this year with some cold days freezing the ground a bit, but then a few warm ones where we were digging horseradish, dandelion & evening primrose roots. And then suddenly, snow.
It’s at this time when the focus changes from outside harvest to the processing of all the spring, summer & fall bounty. Dried herbs are brought out to mix together for teas. Jars are opened for bottling elixirs. In each bag & jar there is a story of the harvest. Of the friends & family who helped. Of the places visited. Of the herb’s scent, vibrancy, healing & story.
Each herb I open brings a nostalgia for those warmer days, but simultaneously a healing & comfort of that memory.

European Linden by the bay. A long abandoned dairy farm, where bits of milk bottles are found as sea glass.
When I opened the rose elixir last week the whole house seemed of rose, as if I had my nose deep in a flower.

Enough
Enough. These few words are enough.
If not these words, this breath.
If not this breath, this sitting here.
This opening to the life
we have refused
again and again
until now.
Until now
